Q: WHAT IS COUCH CHOIR? IS IT THE SAME AS PUB CHOIR?
A: Couch Choir (est. March 2020) is our very special quarantine project to keep the world singing. Even when we can’t run our live, in-person show (Pub Choir), we can still make beautiful music together online, and we call this ‘Couch Choir’! Anybody from around the world is invited to submit a video of themselves singing along to Astrid’s free instructional videos. If you want to join in, sign up to our mailing list (scroll to the bottom of the page) to receive news from us, or check out Couch Choir’s website to see if there is an active session!
Q: HOW DO I JOIN PUB CHOIR?
A: Get a ticket, show up, bring your mouth! We’ll do the rest!
Sometimes the tickets for our shows go pretty quick, so if you are keen, don’t delay! You can also join our private facebook group, Pub Choir Club to hear about everything first! Check out our Dates page to see upcoming shows.
Q: WHERE IS PUB CHOIR?
A: We love to travel and visit new places, but our home base is Brisbane, Australia, where we run an event on the last Wednesday of every month (pandemic permitting). To see if Pub Choir is visiting a city closer to you, check out our published Dates. We are always dreaming up ways to travel to new cities and countries, hopefully we’ll visit you soon!

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE?
A: You don't need to prepare anything. You couldn’t prepare, even if you wanted to! Astrid creates a unique arrangement for every single show, and then teaches it fresh to the crowd on the night. She provides the lyrics and the instructions. Please come with a willingness to listen and follow instructions (no dickheads allowed).
Q: I REALLY WANT TO COME, BUT I HATE THE SONG. CAN YOU CHANGE IT?
A: Please consider:
You can sing your favourite song any time (read that again). But each Pub Choir event is a once-off experience, and the song choice is not the most important part. This is a chance to build a community and share joy with strangers. Focus on that.
It is genuinely impossible to pick one song everybody loves! It’s not about you, darl, it’s about all of us. Having said that, if you think a certain song, or musical style is beneath you, then we’re not the right event for you anyway, and that’s ok!
Songs are not static. The version you know is not the version we will be learning at the show. Astrid finds a new pathway through every tune, and you will have NEVER heard the song performed in this way previously.
Q: WHAT IF I REALLY SUCK AT SINGING?
A: COME! Are you mad? Singing feels great. This is a judgement free zone. Seriously, don't worry so much. Come and let your voice out to play. You might surprise yourself! Ever sung in the shower? Or in the car? Bring that voice. Our rehearsals are relaxed and supportive. And rowdy. There's no way you're going to be heard over hundreds of other drunk people. Good luck with THAT.
Q: IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?
A: Pub Choir is strictly 18+. This is a night for adults, and it comes with a language warning. But as for an upper age limit? No freakin' way! Bring Gran. She'll love it.
Q: I LOVE PUB CHOIR. CAN I MAKE 'a' PUB CHOIR?
A: We're so glad that Pub Choir has got you thinking about forming a singing group in your own community! Singing is for everybody, and we think it should be shared wherever possible. We didn't invent the idea of singing with strangers, but please note that the name "Pub Choir" is trademarked, as we coined the phrase (seriously!). We're sure you can find a different name to perfectly suit you and your singers. And, no matter how flattering it may seem, please refrain from using our photos or our words without permission when advertising your own event (you'd be surprised what we find online!). We are not looking to franchise Pub Choir. We put a lot of time, work, and love into making our own events the best they can possibly be.
