Frequently Asked Questions

Q: HOW DO I JOIN PUB CHOIR?

A: Get a ticket, show up! There is no sign-up sheet, and there is no long term commitment. We simply teach a new song  (In Brisbane, it is usually the last Wednesday of the month, check our DATES page), and anybody who wants to sing can come along.

Admittedly the tickets for our shows go pretty quick, so if you are keen to come along, sign up to our mailing list (bottom of the page) or follow us on facebook.  You can find our upcoming events there, and within each event is the detailed information about how to obtain a ticket.

We also do reserve a small number of door spots at every Pub Choir event, for those of you who like to live dangerously/have trouble accessing tickets online. You have to be there early and in person to receive one of those passes.

Q: WHERE IS PUB CHOIR?

A: Our home city is Brisbane, where we will always run a monthly event. To check if Pub Choir is visiting a city closer to you, check out our published Dates. We are making plans to visit much of Australia in 2018!

Q: WHEN IS PUB CHOIR?

A: We run our regular session in Brisbane every month, and we are making plans to visit new cities in 2018. The nights run from 7pm to approximately 9pm (or earlier). Check our Dates page to see if we are running any additional sessions closer to you!

Q: WHAT DOES IT COST TO ATTEND?

A: At our local Brisbane events, it costs just $20 to attend. Less than the cost of a movie - and at Pub Choir, you'll be the star of the show! You can do this. The price may vary time to time if we travel, or for special fundraising occasions, but our goal is always to make Pub Choir affordable for everybody. We pay for the venues, the legal rights to AWESOME songs, as well as a crew of talented professionals to make the night run smoothly (Artists a l w a y s deserve to be paid for their work). We also donate a portion of every Brisbane event to a nominated charity!! Plus, you get be part of the happiest, most wholesome event of the season. Pretty good bang for buck, we reckon...

Q: WHAT DO I NEED TO PREPARE?

A: Bring a good thirst and a willingness to listen and smile. We'll do the rest! We post a video of the chosen song 24 hours before on our facebook page if you want to familiarise yourself with the song. But you don't need to prepare anything. We will learn every note together on the night. We'll provide the lyrics and the instruction. And we promise: anybody is capable!

Q: CAN YOU POST THE SONGS EARLIER?

A: Creating a new thing with strangers is better than stressing unnecessarily at home alone. Our arrangements are custom-made for the night and there really isn't a way to prepare. It's actually super fun making music in the moment. Try it! FYI: The song is not as important as connecting with other human beings.

Q: I REALLY WANT TO COME, BUT I DON'T LIKE THE SONG. CAN YOU CHANGE IT?

A: We honestly do welcome song recommendations! But please consider:

  1. Pub Choir is not about the song. It's about the community experience. The night is about the joy of sharing something with strangers. Don't let one song stop you!

  2. It is genuinely impossible to pick one song everybody loves. But we are music professionals who agonize over our song choices. We don't choose lightly. Our goal is to ensure that whatever we do choose, is well-known, fun, and achievable. We want everybody to leave with a huge smile after we collectively SLAY a song. Trust our judgement!

  3. You ain't ever heard the song like this before.

Q: WHAT IF I REALLY SUCK AT SINGING?

A: COME! Are you mad? Singing feels great. This is a judgement free zone. Seriously, don't worry so much. Come and let your voice out to play. You might surprise yourself! Ever sung in the shower? Or in the car? Bring that voice. Our rehearsals are relaxed and supportive. And rowdy. There's no way you're going to be heard over hundreds of other drunk people. Good luck with THAT.

Q: IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

A: Well, rehearsals are in a pub. So they are strictly 18+. This is a night for the adults. But as for an upper age limit? No freakin' way! Bring Gran. She'll love it.

Q: WILL YOU COME TO MY CITY SOON?

A: We hope so! Keep an eye on our Dates page to see if we will be travelling your way soon.

Q: I LOVE PUB CHOIR. CAN I MAKE 'a' Pub Choir?

A: We're so glad that Pub Choir has got you thinking about forming a singing group in your own community! Singing is for everybody, and we think it should be shared wherever possible. We didn't invent the idea of singing with strangers, but please note that the name "Pub Choir" is trademarked, and we were the first to use the term worldwide. We're sure you can find a different name to perfectly suit you and your singers. And, no matter how flattering it may seem, please refrain from using our photos or our words without permission when advertising your own event (you'd be surprised what we find online!). We are not currently looking to franchise Pub Choir. We put a lot of time, work, and love into making our own events the best they can possibly be. If you want to experience the original Pub Choir, Check our Dates page to see if we are coming near you some time soon,.

Q: DO YOU DO CORPORATE EVENTS?

A: There's no harm in asking, but we have a very full schedule. In the meantime, check out our Dates to see if you can enjoy one of our many public shows!
